Theatre Alive last week got an unexpected shot in the arm with a US$10,000 gift from former Windsorite Tamia Washington Hill and the Phoenix Suns NBA basketball team.
Washington Hill, an R&B and soul singer, is married to the Suns’ Grant Hill, and the donation was made in her name by the team.
Theatre Alive’s Florence Raisbeck said the gift was a surprise, but not a total shock — Tamia’s younger brother, Tajhee Peden, is in the cast of High School Musical.
“It’s a musical with basketball in it,” said Raisbeck. “And Tamia has a history with our organization.”
The 33-year-old Washington Hill is a graduate of Walkerville high school’s Centre for the Creative Arts, and performed in several Theatre Alive shows in the late-1980s.
